16th Century Theatrical Costume

This Tudor costume for a Royal Shakespeare Company production was based on original paintings of the period.  The fully boned bodice with typical trumpet shaped sleeves was attached to an authentically catridge pleated skirt, worn over a Spanish farthingale.

A more theatrical interpretation of sixteenth century dress (above left) for a R.S.C. production, inspired by commedia dell'arte characters.

Streamlined sixteenth century styling (above right) is still appropriate to the period with a fully boned bodice and bum-roll to provide an authentic silhouette.
